Governor directs Texas State Guard to double in size

Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently directed that the Texas State Guard would double in size from the current 2,300 troops to 5,000.  The increase is to ensure that Texas has a rapidly deployable disaster response force in the event of a natural disaster.  In order to provide better recruitment, training and support the number of active duty Texas State Guard troops would increase from 9 full time staff to 45.
