The Texas State Guard’s Maritime Search & Rescue (SAR) Teams recently held a comprehensive training drill at the Recruit Training Center, focused on ensuring the operational readiness of their watercraft fleet. During this exercise, soldiers meticulously assessed each boat and engine used in maritime search and rescue missions, prioritizing proper maintenance, making necessary repairs, and replacing worn-out parts. Working closely with the logistics team, the SAR Boat Teams completed repair and maintenance on 14 engines essential for waterborne search and rescue, dive operations, and various SAR deployments. These engines represent critical assets in the Texas State Guard’s response capability, allowing soldiers to perform their duties efficiently in challenging environments.

The Maritime Search & Rescue teams play a crucial role following severe weather events that bring catastrophic flooding to Texas communities. When roads are submerged and traditional vehicles cannot access affected areas, these teams deploy to flood-stricken zones to reach stranded residents. With their boats, they navigate flooded neighborhoods to perform lifesaving rescues, transporting stranded Texans to safety. In many cases, they also provide immediate medical assistance before shuttling survivors to hospitals or shelters. Through these missions, the Maritime SAR teams have saved countless lives, proving to be an indispensable asset for Texans during natural disasters. Their preparedness and specialized training allow them to respond rapidly and effectively, underscoring the Texas State Guard’s commitment to safeguarding the lives of those in need.
