New Recruits Sworn Into Puerto Rico State Guard After Passing Through MEPS

The Puerto Rico State Guard recently welcomed 13 new members who took the oath of enlistment, officially joining the organization. These recruits successfully completed the Military System Entry Processing Station (MEPS), the designated process and location for all new enlistees in the Puerto Rico State Guard.

Established in October 2022, the Puerto Rico State Guard MEPS program is designed to ensure all recruits meet the military’s strict medical, physical, mental, and legal requirements and pass a comprehensive background check. This program underscores the State Guard’s commitment to maintaining high standards of health and readiness among its soldiers and airmen. The Puerto Rico State Guard’s MEPS closely mirrors the U.S. Military MEPS system, which serves as a comprehensive gateway for military service applicants. The applicants go through series of examinations and tests designed to ensure candidates meet the necessary standards to serve in the military. These tests are administered by the doctors and nurses of The Puerto Rico State Guard.

Many State Defense Forces across the United States have recently adopted a similar recruiting process, aligning their procedures with the U.S. Military MEPS. This approach allows for a uniform path of processing for applicants into State Defense Forces, maintaining high standards of readiness and fitness. These adaptations not only help ensure that State Defense Force members are on par with their counterparts in the U.S. Armed Forces but also provide recruits with a structured and consistent entry experience into military service. The Puerto Rico State Guard’s MEPS exemplifies this trend, reflecting a broader commitment to excellence and operational readiness in state military organizations nationwide.

On August 10, 2024, as part of the new initiatives and programs established by BG (PR) Edrick Ramirez, the MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) was conducted at Camp Santiago Joint Training Center, (CSJTC) Salinas, Puerto Rico. MEPS was first established in October 2022 with the primary goal of ensuring that new recruits undergo a thorough medical, physical, mental, and legal evaluation, in addition to a background check, to comply with military regulations and ensure that we have healthy soldiers and airmen. We congratulate the physicians, nurses, administrative staff, and intelligence personnel for meeting the MEPS metrics and for their commitment to this organization.
