The Texas State Guard has been exceptionally active over the past month, mobilizing multiple units in response to various emergencies. They have been instrumental in providing assistance following the heavy storms and tornadoes that hit the state in late May, as well as managing the flooding caused by Tropical Storm Alberto. In addition to these missions, the State Guard has personnel actively participating in Operation Lonestar. This operation involves working alongside the National Guard and various state and federal agencies in securing the border. The continuous activation and deployment of their units highlight the Texas State Guard’s critical role in ensuring the safety and security of the state’s residents during times of crisis.
Guardsmen from 1st, 3rd and 4th Battalions, 2nd Brigade, Texas State Guard, partner with Fort Bend County Homeland Security & Emergency Management and the American Red Cross in a full-scale shelter exercise in Richmond, Texas, May 18, 2024. Troops encountered realistic scenarios including medical emergencies and large influxes of shelter arrivals. This exercise prepares 2nd Brigade as we enter hurricane season to respond to natural disasters and other emergencies with our partner agencies in Fort Bend County and across the region. Lt. Col. William Carroll, 4th Battalion Commander, explained, “Our objective is to integrate with our civilian partners to ensure we meet their expectations so they are comfortable utilizing us in an emergency situation. In this way, Fort Bend County understands our capabilities and we better understand how they operate.” Well done all. 2nd Brigade is “ad omnia parati” Ready for Anything!
