The Washington State Military Department recently requested the Washington State Guard (State Defense Force) to provide 20 troops to assist in the 2022 Wildfire firefighting season. In the last few years, the Washington State Guard, has been working with the National Guard as well as State & Local response teams in combating wildland fires.

The Washington Military Department has requested that the Washington State Guard (WSG) provide a 20-person hand crew for the upcoming 2022 fire season. The trained wildland firefighter hand crew could be stood up to deploy to a wildland fire incident and provide support to the incident management team managing the fire incident.

When called to perform the duties of the wildland fire hand crew, the volunteer will be paid per the State contract wage through DNR. The individual will be covered by Washington State LNI if an injury occurs.
