Service above self is an incredibly important thing, which is why I am excited to announce that the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program is now open for nominations for the 2016-2017 academic calendar. This program allows me the opportunity to nominate one deserving student to receive a scholarship toward a 4-year undergraduate degree at any Texas University with an ROTC program.
Students applying for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship must meet at least two of the following requirements: be on track to graduate or have graduated high school, have a GPA of a 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 point scale, achieve a college readiness score on the SAT (1590) or ACT (23), and be ranked in the top one-third of the prospective high school graduating class.
Students interested in the scholarship also must enter into an agreement requiring a four-year commitment as a member of the Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, Texas State Guard, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Merchant Marines or a be commissioned officer in any branch of the armed services.
If you are, or know of a student that is, interested in attending a Texas public university with plans to serve in our Armed Forces, please take advantage of this possibility.
Please help spread the word and apply through my office by submitting a transcript, SAT or ACT scores, resume and cover letter. Applications may be emailed to Wayne.Byrd@House.Texas.gov or delivered to my district office located at 119 West 4th Street in downtown Odessa. The deadline for submission is July 31, 2016. Do not hesitate to contact my district office at 432-332-0937 if you have any questions.
