Texas State Guard converting buildings to hospitals

The Texas State Guard (State Defense Force) has been engaged in a multitude of missions since their initial activation to respond to the Coronavirus outbreak. One of those missions involves being embedded into a Joint Task Force Engineer Unit whose mission it is to identify, convert and equip buildings into hospitals for the coming influx of patients.

Texas Military Department Airmen, Soldiers, and State Guardsmen are participating in a joint effort to prepare buildings across the state of Texas to serve as healthcare facilities. This will increase Texas’ hospital bed capacity and allow us to work together to fight COVID-19.

Cpl. Jon Sims, of the Texas State Guard, conducts a building assessment at the Paris Regional Medical Center, as part of Joint Task Force Engineer 176. TMD is identifying and equipping buildings that can be converted into field hospitals to assist in the fight against COVID-19.
