New York Guard receives additional training for Coronavirus mission

The New York Guard (State Defense Force) has been on active duty during the months of March & April working side by side with the National Guard in Joint Task Force groups.  Recently New York Guard troops assigned to Joint Task Force 2, Strike Teams Alpha and Bravo, had successfully completed full Size Gator Crossover Utility Vehicle Training.

Joint Task Force2, Team Bravo member, Staff Sergeant (SSG) Luis Ojeda, New York Guard is hard at work ensuring that vital sanitizer supplies are safely and efficiently loaded onto waiting vehicles. After the supplies are loaded, New York National Guard service members then drive these supplies to hospitals, EOCs and other agencies locations as requested.

 

New York Guard Service members assigned to Joint Task Force 2 Strike Teams Alpha and Bravo successfully completed full Size Gator Crossover Utility Vehicle Training given at CSTS by New York State employee Michael Morley on April 20, 2020. The teams received the training while on State Active duty.

 

Joint Task Force 2 Strike Team Bravo prepared for their daily safety briefing at 0 645HRS on April 20, 2020. Strike Team Bravo provides logistical support to the New York National Guard through the distribution of sanitizer to National Guard members who transport it to hospitals, EOCs and other entities throughout New York State.

 

New York Guard Service members, while serving on State Active duty were recently promoted, and received their MEMS (Military Emergency Management Specialist) Badge and certificates on April 16 2020 at CSTS. The New York Guard currently has 85 service members on paid state active duty supporting National Guard efforts throughout the state, where they are providing logistics and operations assistance supporting the New York National Guard and NY State multi-agency response to COVID-19.

 

Specialist Tatsuya Hondo, 89th Band, New York Guard , who is currently assigned to Joint Task Force2, Strike Team Bravo, received a certificate for NYG “Soldier of the Week” on April 19, 2020, for his outstanding work State Active Duty as part of Bravo team.
