The California State Guards Emergency Response Command (ERC) recently had a change of command ceremony for one of its units – Team Shield. 1st Lt. Troy Elam takes command of this elite unit within the State Guard as the outgoing commander, Major Christopher Merlo, transitions to the 40th Support Detachment. The Emergency Response Command is an elite unit within the California State Guard whos mission is to work with the National Guard & CALFIRE in Wildland Firefighting.
