New Barracks for Troops who are on Active Duty for Operation Lone Star

The Texas Military Department recently announced new housing for Texas Army National Guard, Air National Guard & State Guard troops who are currently serving on Active Duty for Operation Lone Star. Operation Lone Star is an Joint Task Force operation whos mission is to detect and deter criminal activity along the Texas international border.

Yesterday, service members on Operation Lone Star begin moving into new dormitory housing on Camp Walker, near Laredo.
“It has enough space for four bunks and a wall locker (per room), and it’s going to be pretty spacious,” said the Mayor Cell OIC. “This is the standard going forward.”
Operation Lone Star is a state active duty mission to deter and repel criminal activity along the Texas-Mexico border.
Our personnel are trained to operate and adapt in austere environments at home and abroad. As with any mission, we continue to adjust as the situation evolves.
