New recruits take the oath of enlistment to join The Tennessee State Guard (State Defense Force). The group is made up of Prior Service as well as Non-Prior Service personnel. The Non-Prior Service recruits will continue their journey in the Tennessee State Guard by undergoing Initial Entry Training (Basic Military Training) before joining their permanent units. The Prior Service troops who served in the US Military will not have to attend IET since their Federal training qualifies them.
