The Georgia State Defense Force Opposing Force (OPFOR) Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Vadim Timchenko, was recently recognized for his 10 years of service to the Georgia State Defense Force. The Commanding General, Brigadier General Mark D. Gelhardt Sr., was on hand to present the medal to Lt. Col. Timchenko.
The Opposing Force (OPFOR) is an elite unit within the Georgia State Defense Force. It’s mission is to provide support to the Georgia Army National Guard during their Urban & Woodland Assault Training. They act as the opposing force during the Army’s Military Operations on Urban Terrain (MOUT) training. Previous to the establishment of the Georgia State Defense Force OPFOR unit the Georgia Army National Guard had to use their own troops to serve as the opposing force during training exercises. This decreased the level of training every soldier received. With the GA SDF OPFOR, the Army National Guard units can now train together and develop their skills as one force.
