A few weeks ago, The Alaska National Guard & State Defense Force were activated to respond to the towns affected by the Typhoon Merbok which affected most of Western Alaska. The troops were deployed among several regions to help communities rebuild. During their mission in Hooper Bay, Alaska State Defense Force troops met with US Senator Lisa Murkowski as she visited sites to survey the damage.
Alaska State Defense Force members were honored to meet Sen Murkowski and Rep Peltola in Hooper Bay during the Alaska Organized Militia’s response to Typhoon Merbok.
After a few weeks of being on Active Duty, National Guard & State Defense Force troops are wrapping up their operations.
Yesterday, AVCP’s CEO Vivian Korthuis debriefed with the joint operation Merbok Bethel Taskforce regarding the work they are doing in the region following Typhoon Merbok. Pictured from left to right: Vivian Korthuis, Sargent Charles, Colonel James, and Sargent Kanuk.
