New York Guard Assisting National Guard in Joint Task Force Asylum Relief Support

The New York National Guard has been activated by The Governor of New York, Gov. Kathy Hochul, to help assist migrants that are staying at shelters throughout New York City. The National Guard created a new Joint Task Force known as Asylum Relief Support and with the New York Guard (State Defense Force) they have been assisting with providing additional security at the facilities.

In the video below you can identify New York Guard troops with a Black Cover (Hat) (Time 1:23), Black Nametapes(Time 0:51), and a Blue New York State Flag Patch on their right arm instead of the US Flag (Time 0:36).

New York National Guard at Staten Island hotels housing migrants

Several members of the New York National Guard have been seen walking around the two hotels where migrants are staying in Staten Island.

They are staying at the Holiday Inn Express and Comfort Inn on Wild Avenue.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced earlier this month that she had deployed the National Guard to the migrant shelters — her office said it was for “administrative and operational support,” which includes traffic control and reception duties.

“I’m happy they’re here,” Jessica Guerra said in Spanish.

Guerra lives inside one of the hotels and said everyone from the National Guard that she has met has been respectful.

“They’re really nice. They check on us to see if we’re doing well,” Guerra said.

Hochul’s office did not say how many shelters the National Guard is currently assisting.
