Georgia SDF Sergeant First Class Receives Commendation Medal From Georgia National Guard Adjutant General

Georgia State Defense Force Sergeant First Class Jeff Jones recently received a Commendation Medal from the Georgia National Guard Adjutant General, Major General Thomas M. Carden Jr., and Deputy Adjutant General, Joe Ferrero. The Commendation Medal was awarded due to his actions on September 29 when while working at The Clay National Guard Center billeting office a guest became critically ill. SFC Jones, a former Navy Corpsman, quickly responded to provide emergency medical aid to the individual.

Sergeant First Class Jeff Jones served 20 years Active Duty in the US Navy, another 10 years in the Navy Reserve, then decided to continue serving in the Georgia State Defense Force. We would like to thank SFC Jeff Jones for his incredible service to his state and country as well as for his heroic actions that day.

While working at his civilian job at the CNGC 122nd Regiment Regional Training Institute billeting on September 15, Sgt. 1st Class Jones attended to a guest who was critically ill. Sgt.1st Class Jones took the necessary steps to involve appropriate emergency medical service personnel.
For 30 years, Sgt. 1st Class Jones had served as a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy—20 years active duty and another 10 years in the reserves.
Maj. Leif Rivera, CNGC Garrison Commander, also attended the medal presentation. Sgt. 1st Class Jones’ supervisor, Elsena Lettsome, brought the life-saving incident to the attention of the adjutant general’s office.
Sgt. 1st Class Jones joined the GSDF in 2019. He serves in the GSDF 4th Brigade.
