Texas 2nd Brigade Provides Security During Blue Angels Airshow

The Texas State Guard’s (State Defense Force) 2nd Brigade recently provided security at the 38th annual Wings Over Houston Airshow. The event was held at the Ellington Airport in Houston, Texas. The air show featured the legendary U.S. Navy Blue Angels squadron as well as the F-16V Viper and historic aircraft such as the C-17, “Doc”, a B-17 and a restored B-29.

The 2nd Brigade provided security for the aircraft while on the tarmac, ensuring they were only accessed by authorized personnel. They also maintained crowd control at the event and conducted bag checks to ensure no weapons were brought to the event.

Last weekend, troops of the 2nd Brigade, Texas State Guard, volunteered their time to help support the 38th annual Wings Over Houston Airshow which included performances by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the F-16V Viper, the C-17, “Doc”, a restored B-29, and many others at Ellington, Airport, Houston, TX, OCT 29-30, 2022. Texas State Guard members helped ensure a safe event by providing bag check, assisting with flow control and maintaining a secure flight line at the active taxiways. Following the event, the Commanding General of the 2nd Brigade, Brigadier General Edwin Grantham, was on hand to conduct oath of enlistments to new recruits joining The Texas State Guard and Re-Enlistments to already serving soldiers.

Also at the event the commander of the 4th Battalion of The 2nd Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Michael Russell, who presented awards and a promotion to soldiers at the event.
Lt. Col. Michael Russell, Commander, 4th Battalion, 2nd Brigade, Texas State Guard, promotes Tom Tynan to Corporal, and awards the Texas State Guard Achievement Medal to Pfcs. Ryan Moffitt and Cyrille Noukeu Dounkeu while they were volunteering at the 38th Annual Wings Over Houston, Ellington Airport, Houston, Texas, Oct. 30th, 2022. Tynan has served in the Texas State Guard for 4 years, and enjoys volunteering for duty at various events, including 4 days at this year’s airshow. Moffitt reported for duty for every day of the airshow, including the advanced party and performed maintenance and repair on the equipment to be ready for the event. Dounkeu was recognized for his recent deployment in support of Operation Lone Star – Border Surge. Well done, Well deserved!
