Georgia State Defense Force Lays Wreaths For Fallen US Veterans

A few weeks ago Georgia State Defense Force troops visited The Georgia National Cemetery to lay wreaths on the graves of United States veterans. The program known as ‘Wreaths Across America’  was founded by Morrill Worcester, who developed the program to remember, honor and teach about those who served and those that made the ultimate sacrifice for this nation.

The program is well known throughout the nation and now covers more than 3,700 locations, ensuring every US Veterans grave has a wreath this holiday season. The program embodies the words of Lincoln:

”It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us — that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion — that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain — that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

In December, Wreaths Across America ceremonies are held at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as more than 3,700 other locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad.
The GSDF is a component of the Georgia Department of Defense, along with the Georgia Air National Guard and Georgia Army National Guard.
The Georgia National Cemetery is managed by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.
