Becoming Better Trained: How the Defense Force is Impacting Georgia Army National Guard Soldiers

On April 14, 2023, members of the Georgia State Defense Force’s 1st Brigade, 3rd Battalion joined troops from the Georgia Army National Guard (GAARNG) in a field training exercise held in Fort Stewart, Georgia. The exercise pitted Army National Guard soldiers against Defense Force troops in combat scenarios. These missions are designed to test and develop the skills of Army National Guard soldiers so they have a live opponent to test their abilities against.

Prior to the usage of Georgia State Defense Force troops in these Opposing Force scenarios The Georgia Army National Guard had to use their own troops to serve as the opposing force during such training operations. This unfortunately decreased the amount of training every soldier received. Now with The Georgia Defense Force serving that role, Army National Guard soldiers can train together and develop their skills as one.

Georgia State Defense Force (GSDF) Soldiers from the GSDF 1st Brigade, 3rd Battalion, participated in a field training exercise with Georgia Army National Guard (GAARNG) troops, Fort Stewart, Ga., April 14, 2023. (GSDF Soldiers shown here with GAARNG Soldiers)
GAARNG scout and infantry teams engaged with GSDF Soldiers as the GAARNG troops practiced observation and tactical combat skills.
