State Defense Forces across the nation gathered to honor the memory of those lost in the tragic events of September 11, 2001. In Canton, Georgia, the Georgia State Defense Force (GSDF) stood shoulder to shoulder with local police, firefighters, and soldiers, paying heartfelt tributes to the valiant first responders of that fateful day.

In a poignant scene from Canton, Ga., on September 11, 2023, a fire truck’s ladder majestically hoists the U.S. flag in somber remembrance of 9/11. Soldiers of the GSDF were present at the ceremony held at Canton Rotary Park to mark the occasion.

In South Carolina, The State Guard there participated in the Greenville City 911 Memorial Stair Climb. They stood alongside first responders from throughout the Palmetto State to pay homage to the heroes of September 11, 2001. Their presence echoed a resounding promise: We will Never Forget the sacrifices made on that fateful day.

And in Texas, Soldiers from The Texas National Guard & State Guard (State Defense Force) visited the Zapata North Elementary School to attend a ceremony dedicated to commemorate 9/11.

Guardsmen from the Texas Military Department, Texas Army National Guard, and Texas State Guard visited Zapata North Elementary School to commemorate the historical events of 9/11 and take part in the 9/11 presentation, held in Zapata, Texas, on September 11, 2023. It was a privilege for Cpl. Lisaann Prewett, 1st Brigade, Texas State Guard, to talk about her cousin Al Galli, one of many heroes that day, who was on the 37th story of Tower 1 (the North Tower). Before the tower collapsed, Al Galli served as the Floor Captain and safely transported everyone across the Brooklyn Bridge. The service members visited with students and were honored to support the event alongside the Zapata County Sheriff’s Office and the Zapata County Fire Department.
