Georgia State Defense Force Soldiers Soar in UH-60 Black Hawks during Annual Training Exercise

During the Georgia State Defense Force’s (GSDF) annual training, which took place at Volunteer Training Site—Catoosa, Tunnel Hill, GA, from September 21-24, 2023, soldiers experienced the opportunity to fly in UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. This exercise was not only an exhilarating experience for the troops but also vital training as soldiers were able to familiarize themselves with the operations of this vehicle. Often during statewide emergencies and severe weather events, Georgia State Defense Force work shoulder to shoulder with their Army National Guard brothers and sisters. The Georgia State Defense Force is often tasked with loading and unloading civilian casualties onto helicopters for urgent evacuations.

These training exercises are invaluable, offering GSDF soldiers a taste of real-time scenarios where they learn to swiftly and efficiently cooperate with National Guard flight crews amidst crisis situations. Engaging in these annual training sessions not only enhances the soldiers’ skills and knowledge but also fortifies the bond and interoperability between the GSDF and the Georgia Army National Guard, ensuring that when disaster strikes, both forces are ready to seamlessly execute their duties to protect and serve the civilians of Georgia.
