The Ohio Military Reserve, a crucial component of the state’s defense and emergency response capabilities, recently conducted a comprehensive Homeland Security exercise dubbed Operation Ready Horizon. This operation centered around a Point Of Distribution (POD) exercise, a mission bestowed to most State Defense Force by their respective National Guards. In the execution of this mission, soldiers from the Ohio Military Reserve swiftly established a emergency distribution location, ensuring the efficient and timely dissemination of essential supplies such as food, water, and medical provisions to citizens. This exercise underscored the significance of the POD mission, particularly in light of the logistical challenges and supply shortages experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic, when critical resources became scarce and public demand soared.
During Operation Ready Horizon, the 7th Unmanned Aerial System, one of the newest units within The Ohio Military Reserve, played a pivotal role by deploying their advanced aerial vehicles to bolster security and streamline traffic operations. These unmanned systems provided an aerial perspective, enabling better coordination and surveillance, ensuring that the distribution process was not only swift but also secure. The integration of this technology showcased the unit’s innovative approach to modernizing its operations and enhancing its capability to respond to state emergencies effectively. By successfully marrying traditional boots-on-the-ground tactics with cutting-edge technology, The Ohio Military Reserve demonstrated its commitment to excellence and its readiness to meet the needs of its citizens, solidifying its role as a vital pillar in the state’s security and emergency response framework.
