In a heartwarming segment on The Kelly Clarkson Show, viewers were introduced to Gold Star Kids Supports Services, a nonprofit dedicated to funding extracurricular activities for children of Gold Star families—those who have lost a military service member. The organization was founded by high school senior Leighanne and her father, Jim, whose deep-rooted military family history and them being themselves being a gold star family inspired this noble cause. Jim’s father served during World War II, his father-in-law fought in Vietnam, and Jim himself is currently serving in the Georgia State Defense Force, assisting the National Guard with community and family events. The segment highlighted how Leighanne’s passion for honoring fallen service members and supporting their children led to the creation of this impactful nonprofit. The touching narrative was further enriched by the presence of Gold Star Kids recipient Jack and his mother, Jennifer, who had the chance to meet Leighanne for the first time on the show.
