Guardsmen from the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Battalions of the 2nd Brigade, Texas State Guard (State Defense Force), recently partnered with Fort Bend County Homeland Security & Emergency Management and the American Red Cross for a comprehensive shelter exercise in Richmond, Texas, on May 18, 2024. The exercise featured realistic scenarios such as medical emergencies and large influxes of shelter arrivals, designed to prepare the 2nd Brigade for the upcoming hurricane season and other potential emergencies. According to Lt. Col. William Carroll, 4th Battalion Commander, the objective was to integrate seamlessly with civilian partners to ensure mutual understanding and effectiveness during actual emergencies. This collaboration helps Fort Bend County become more familiar with the Texas State Guard’s capabilities, while the Guard gains insight into the operations of their civilian counterparts. The 2nd Brigade proudly upholds their motto, “ad omnia parati” – Ready for Anything.
