During Independence Day 2024, the Texas State Guard (State Defense Force) 3rd Brigade celebrated with a strong sense of community involvement and service. The 3BN/3BDE provided two strike teams and an ICS command team to support the Webb County Fire Marshal’s Office during the Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association (WBCA) Fireworks Extravaganza Community event. This collaboration ensured the safety and enjoyment of the festivities, showcasing the Brigade’s commitment to public service and emergency preparedness.
In Atlanta, Georgia, the Georgia State Defense Force (GSDF) played a crucial role in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race, the world’s largest 10K race. Not only did GSDF Soldiers participate as runners, but they also contributed significantly to the event’s operations, security, and logistics. Soldiers from GSDF headquarters, 1st Brigade, 5th Brigade, and OPFOR Battalion arrived in the early morning hours to ensure everything was in place for the thousands of amateur and professional athletes from around the globe. Their involvement highlighted their dedication to community support and operational excellence.
Meanwhile, the First Company Governor’s Foot Guard (State Defense Force) proudly marched in the Columbia, CT Fourth of July Parade. This event was graced by the presence of notable figures such as Attorney General William Tong and United States Senator Richard Blumenthal. The Foot Guard’s participation honored their longstanding tradition of ceremonial excellence and community engagement, reflecting their historical significance and ongoing dedication to public service.
The Second Company Governor’s Guards participated in a solemn and honorable parade in New Haven, celebrating the signers of the Declaration of Independence at the Grove Street Cemetery. They conducted services at the final resting places of Roger Sherman, General David Humphreys, and others, alongside supporting the Sons of the American Revolution in their annual ceremony. Moments of silence were observed for fallen members of the 2nd Company who valiantly fought in the American Revolution.
Tracing its lineage back to the Battle of Lexington and Concord, the Governors Guards (Both 1st Company Foot Guard & 2nd Company Foot Guard) participation in these events underscored their rich historical heritage and continued commitment to honoring the nation’s past.

After supporting The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race on Independence Day morning, GGeorgia State Defense Force(GSDF) Soldiers (from various units) de-blouse (remove the long-sleeve portion of their uniforms) to walk the event’s 6.2 distance, Atlanta, Ga., July 4, 2024. .
The race started, for some, as early as 6:25 am. Heat prompted event officials to cancel the remainder of the race around 10:35 am.
