The Office of Government & Legislative Affairs has opened a significant investigation into the circumstances surrounding changes made to National Guard Bureau policy affecting State Defense Forces / State Guards across the country. Over the past several weeks, our team has spoken with senior leaders and received information that raises serious questions about how certain policy decisions were developed, what events may have influenced those decisions, and what their long-term impact could be on State Defense Forces nationwide.
Because of the seriousness of the information provided to us, we are not relying on anonymous statements alone. Our team has begun pursuing Federal records through the Freedom of Information Act and is seeking emails, memoranda, briefings, communications, and other documentation that may explain what occurred behind the scenes. We are also taking additional steps to ensure these requests receive appropriate attention and that any information we ultimately publish is supported by documentary evidence.
