Historical legend surrounding the origin of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations reflects the earliest celebration of the holiday in America took place in Boston in 1737, when colonists of Irish descent marked the event with a modest parade.
This weekend the City of New Haven, the birthplace of the 2nd Company Governor’s Foot Guard, celebrated the holiday by hosting its annual Greater New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
The contingent marching from the 2nd Co. Governor’s Foot Guard escorted Governor Ned Lamont, who along with local, state and federal representatives marched down the streets of New Haven amidst revelers and residents who were out in force to celebrate the holiday.
The 2nd Company Governor’s Foot Guard wishes all a safe and happy celebration this month for St. Patrick’s Day!
