Change of Command for ERC Team Shield

The California State Guards Emergency Response Command (ERC) recently had a change of command ceremony for one of its units – Team Shield. 1st Lt. Troy Elam takes command of this elite unit within the State Guard as the outgoing commander, Major Christopher Merlo, transitions to the 40th Support Detachment. The Emergency Response Command is an elite unit within the California State Guard whos mission is to work with the National Guard & CALFIRE in Wildland Firefighting.

The Emergency Response Command’s Team Shield welcomes incoming detachment commander 1st Lt. Troy Elam during a change of command ceremony at Joint Forces Training Base Los Alamitos Nov. 20, as Maj. Christopher Merlo transfers to his new role as officer in charge of the Civil Military Operations Center, 40th Support Detachment.
