State Defense Forces follow in the uniform standards of The United States Army National Guard. When The US Military transitions to a new uniform most State Defense Forces follow suite. However there are a few that never transition over and remain wearing older uniforms such as The Universal Camouflage Pattern (ACU Digital Pattern) or even older Battle Dress Uniform. Often many soldiers in these organizations are left wondering why no transition was ever made.
The States Adjutant General (Senior National Guard General) is the individual who authorizes any new States Defense Force uniform adoption. Often It is believed that the more active a role a State Defense Force plays in assisting and augmenting their National Guard the more aligned they are in uniform and mission set.
