From Training to Reality: Ohio Military Reserve’s POD Exercise Ensures Swift Emergency Response

The Ohio Military Reserve’s (State Defense Force) 1st Battalion dedicated their February weekend drill to a critical and hands-on Point Of Distribution (POD) exercise in partnership with Canal Fulton’s Serving Area Military Charity. This exercise involved setting up a logistical point aimed at swiftly providing essential supplies such as food, water, and medical supplies to citizens in times of need. This particular event was focused on supporting military families, including those of deployed members, active duty personnel, and veterans. Leading the operation were Captain James Lane as the Officer in Charge (OIC) and Sergeant First Class Phillip Lohmeyer as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC), highlighting the Ohio Military Reserve’s commitment to practical readiness and community support.

The Points of Distribution (POD) is a crucial mission entrusted to State Defense Forces by The National Guard, emphasizing the establishment of distribution points throughout the state to ensure the efficient delivery of vital resources to the population. This mission is especially significant during emergencies when traditional supply chains are disrupted. The effectiveness of the POD mission was notably demonstrated during the early months of the Covid-19 Pandemic when the demand for food and water surged as supermarkets struggled to maintain stock. These operations underscore the pivotal role of State Defense Forces in bolstering community resilience and ensuring the well-being of citizens during crises.

OHMR’s 1BN recently conducted a Points of Distribution (POD) mission with Canal Fulton’s Serving Area Military Charity. The event helped to feed military families of deployed, active duty, and veterans. CPT James Lane served as OIC, with SFC Phillip Lohmeyer as NCOIC.
