Operation Border Health Preparedness Offers Free Medical, Dental & Vision Care This Week

Operation Border Health Preparedness began this week in key parts of Texas. This is a yearly medical mission which the Texas State Guard (State Defense Force) has been participating in for over two decades. The entire component of the Texas State Guard medical corps will be working with local county health specialists, city health departments, medical university schools, human service organizations, out-of-state health agencies, as well as volunteer medical groups to provide free medical, dental, and vision care to all Texans.

The services these agencies will be providing include:

  • General Physician Services
  • Immunizations for children and adults View Immunizations Offered
  • Diabetic, hearing, vision, and blood pressure screenings
  • Sports physicals
  • Dental services for adults and children (Dental for Adults only on Monday and Tuesday)
  • Vision exams for prescription glasses for adults and children (if you have an eye glass prescription even if from Mexico, it will be honored for a pair of glasses, as long asthe prescription is within 365 days)
  • Preventative Veterinary services for cats and dogs, including vaccinations
  • Social Services
  • Behavioral Health
  • Nutritional Education
  • Car Seat Safety Inspections and Education
  • Tobacco Cessation
  • South Texas Food Pantry: recipients receive a grocery bag of supplemental food items
  • PSJA ISD Child Nutrition Program will have free breakfast and lunch meals available for the children (1-18 years) attending OBHP.

The operation focuses on the following counties: Brownsville, Harlingen, Laredo, Raymondville, Rio Grande City, and San Juan. If you wish to utilize these services please visit the Texas Health & Human Services Website for locations and times.

Operation Border Health Preparedness, formerly Operation Lone Star-Medical, is an annual medical training exercise on the border that offers free medical, dental, and vision care.
