56th Area Command Spends Drill Weekend Focusing On Land Navigation Skills

While the 88th Area Command of the New York Guard (State Defense Force) spent their October weekend training drill focusing on their backup MERN (Military Emergency Radio Network) Communications system, the 56th Area Command focused on Land Navigation. Based out of Long Island, New York, the troops went over these vital skills which they originally learned in Basic Training. They first went over the basics in classroom instruction then employed the skills out in the field.

Here are some photos from the training drill:

During a recent training in October 2022, the New York Guard 56th Area Command, Second Detachment, conducted basic land navigation class and field exercise.
At the conclusion of drill, LTC Greg Feldman, Deputy Commander of the 56th Area Command, administered the oath of re-enlistment for Specialist Dena Williams, from Bronx, NY. SPC Williams served on State Active Duty in support of Covid-19 operations and has been in NYG since 2020.
