Connecticut Foot Guard FTX Focuses on The Essentials

The Connecticut Foot Guard (State Defense Force) recently held their bi-annual Field Training Exercise (FTX). During this 4 day period the troops covered a wealth of training. They performed ruck marches, drill & ceremony, and trained on 18th century muskets which they utilize for ceremonial events. Basic Training classes were also held at the event for Non-Prior Service recruits. Each State Defense Force holds an Initial Entry Training (IET – Basic Training) course for recruits with no previous US Military service so they can be accustomed to military life and learn the essentials such as Drill & Ceremony, Military Law, Chain of Command, Land Navigation, etc.

The troops also qualified on small arms weapons at the pistol range. The Connecticut Foot Guard routinely gets firearms training from instructors from The Department of Homeland Security.

As the First Company Governor’s Foot Guard embarks on its 251st year of service, we recently held our bi-annual FTX Training.
Our newest Recruit Class learned about the proper wear and maintenance of uniforms, took part in a Living History Ruck March, became familiar with both the Charleyvilles and Springfield muskets, amongst many other classes.
Our Grenadiers qualified on weapons, while also taking part in numerous training courses. Our bandsmen joined in on training as well as holding extensive music rehearsals.
Success is an understatement for all this Unit accomplished over a 4 day period.
