Ohio SDF Commanding General Dedicates Radio Facility to Former National Guard TAG

The Ohio State Defense Force Commanding General, Brigadier General Larry M. Pinkerton, recently visited The Haubrich Armory in Columbus, Ohio to dedicate a part of the armory to a former National Guard General, Major General Loren Windom. General Windom served for decades in The Ohio National Guard. During World War 2 he fought in The Philippines and was awarded The Distinguished Service Cross for heroism in battle. Following the war he went on to command The 37th Infantry Division, and soon after became The Adjutant General of Ohio (Senior National Guard General).

Alongside his distinguished military service history he is also known for his innovative inventions in Radio. During his youth he experimented with radio antennae’s which led to the creation of the Off-Center Fed dipole (OCF) also known as The Carolina Windom. This unique antenna setup provides for the simplest and most proficient way of communicating via High Frequency radio bands.

In honor of this great soldier The Ohio State Defense Force has named their communications facility The Major General Loren Windom Radio Room.

BG Larry M. Pinkerton, Commander of State Defense Forces of Ohio, cuts the ribbon dedicating the MG Loren Windom Radio Room at Haubrich Armory, Columbus, Ohio. The area features amateur radio, several antenna, and communications equipment that can be used in case of state emergency.
