An Inside Look At The Texas Military Departments Annual Governors 20 Rifle Competition

Weeks ago we reported That The Texas Governor’s 20 Rifle Competition was underway. This annual competition is held by The Texas Military Department. It pits Army National Guard, Air National Guard & State Guard troops against one another in a multitude of firearms proficiency exercises.

Two Texas State Guard members made achievements during the competition:

  • Corporal Jerah Hutchins became the first Texas State Guard Female Service Member to reach The Final 8
  • 2nd Lt. Brian Gene Orric attained the 1st Place Novice Rank

Congratulations to all those that participated in the event.

Soldiers, Airmen and State Guardsmen from across the TMD met at Camp Swift for the annual Governor’s 20 Rifle Competition.

Congratulations to Sgt. 1st Class Stephen Duron 1/143rd Airborne 1st place overall and 2nd Lt. Brian Gene Orric, 6th Brigade, Texas State Guard, 1st place novice. The competition tests service members’ shooting skills and physical fitness with an array of stress shoots including an 800 m run and then engaging targets of up to 400 yards away.
