FATS: Elevating the Training Standards of the Connecticut Foot Guard

Both Companies of The Connecticut Foot Guard (State Defense Force) are taking decisive steps towards ensuring that its members are not only ready but also updated with the most advanced training the 21st Century has to offer. As a part of this progressive approach, soldiers from both the 1st Co. and 2nd Co. recently headed out to Camp Net in Niantic, CT, to experience firsthand the capabilities of the US Army’s FATS—Firearms Training System from the top instructors from The Connecticut Army National Guard. This state-of-the-art platform incorporates the best of digital interactive technology, providing soldiers into meticulously crafted real-life scenarios, with the aim of refining their decision-making capabilities in situations where use of force is paramount.

The FATS system stands out not merely for its technological prowess but also for its capacity to simulate real threats and challenges, ensuring that soldiers are equipped with the skills to respond promptly and appropriately. By training in such realistic scenarios, it allows the members of The Foot Guard to be trained should the need ever arise to augment specific National Guard units.

However, the widespread adoption and endorsement of FATS is a testament to the system’s caliber that all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces have integrated FATS into their training modules. This trust extends internationally as well, with the system currently employed in 46 countries. Furthermore, 17 federal agencies, 35 state agencies, and over 650 law enforcement departments across the globe utilize FATS for tactical, marksmanship, and use-of-force training, echoing its universal appeal and proven efficiency.

Training for the Future because the Future is Now!
The Connecticut State Governor’s Footguard continues to maintain its readiness to serve in all capacities by staying up to date on 21st Century training. Recently representatives of both the 1st Co. and 2nd Co. received updated training on the Army’s FATS usage at Camp Net in Niantic, CT. FATS stands for “Firearms Training System” (FATS).
FATS utilizes digital interactive training technology, allowing soldiers to develop decision-making skills by responding to real-life scenarios where force may be necessary.
All branches of the U.S. Armed Forces employ FATS simulators for both military and police use of force, marksmanship and tactical training. The FATS system has been universally established as the industry standard for small arms training, currently in use in 46 countries including 17 federal agencies, 35 state agencies, and over 650 law enforcement departments throughout the United States and worldwide.
