On October 14, 2023, the skies over Houston, Texas, were alive with the roar of engines and the breathtaking aerobatics of aircraft, as the city played host to the 39th Annual Wings Over Houston Airshow. Attracting over 80,000 attendees, the event showcased spectacular performances from the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the Commemorative Air Force (C.A.F.) Air Power Demonstration, and the Re/Max Skydiving Team. Amidst the exhilarating displays of aviation prowess, the 2nd Brigade of The Texas State Guard played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of all present. Tasked with responsibilities such as bag checks, flow control, and maintaining a secure flight line at the active taxiways, the dedicated men and women of the State Guard demonstrated their commitment to serving and protecting the community.

Major General Anthony Woods, the Commander of The Texas State Guard, was a prominent presence at the event, taking the time to speak with and motivate the soldiers under his command. His leadership and engagement with the troops underscored the importance of the State Guard’s role in community events such as the airshow. Adding to the significance of the day, Brigadier General E.A. “Buddy” Grantham, the commander of the Texas State Guard’s 2nd Brigade, conducted a swearing-in ceremony for five new members of the brigade. This poignant moment served as a reminder of the ongoing commitment and dedication of those who choose to serve in the State Defense Force, ensuring that the legacy of service and protection continues for future generations.
