A Coat of Kindness: The Governors Guards’ Successful Drive with One Warm Coat

The 1st Company of The Governors Foot Guard (State Defense Force), recently exemplified their deep commitment to community service and social responsibility through their active participation in a significant charitable initiative. They joined forces with One Warm Coat, a cloud-based nonprofit organization that has been dedicated to providing free coats to children and adults in need since 1992. One Warm Coat is a beacon of hope and sustainability, having facilitated over 50,000 coat drives nationwide, distributing 8 million coats through more than 1,500 nonprofit partners, and preventing over 19 million pounds of textiles from ending up in landfills. The organization operates on a simple yet powerful premise: every individual has the right to shelter from the elements, and they work tirelessly to fulfill this by distributing coats free of charge across all 50 states, driven by a spirit of volunteerism and a commitment to environmental sustainability.

The Governors Guards made a notable contribution to this noble cause. Through their concerted efforts, they raised $500 and collected 165 coats for the ‘One Warm Coat’ drive. This achievement not only reflects their dedication to community service but also their ability to mobilize resources effectively for a worthy cause. Lieutenant Franco had the honor of delivering these coats. This visit provided an insightful glimpse into the ongoing positive developments in Hartford communities. The success of this initiative is a testament to the generosity and community spirit of the Guards and all the individuals who contributed. Their efforts have significantly impacted those in need, offering warmth and support, one coat at a time. The Governors Guards extended their heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated, helping to make this coat drive a resounding success.

The Unit collected $500.00 and 165 coats for donation through our ‘One Warm Coat’ drive.
LT Franco had the pleasure of delivering the coats to Community Partners in Action and meeting with Jendayi Scott-Miller of Angel of Edgewood, where she got to tour the facility and see what great things are in the works for Hartford communities.
We send a wholehearted thank you to those that contributed and donated to make this drive such a success.
