Texas State Guard’s 6th Brigade Engages in Multi-Agency Exercise with elite National Guard CERFP Unit & TX Homeland Security

The First Battalion of the 6th Brigade of the Texas State Guard (State Defense Force) recently participated in a multi-agency exercise that showcased their preparedness and versatility. This training involved collaboration with the Texas Department of Homeland Security, Emergency Medical Task Forces (EMTF), and the National Guard CERFP (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, High Yield Explosive Enhanced Response Force Package) Medical unit. The battalion’s June drill weekend included a visit to Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation, where they engaged in introductory training for the Medical Personnel Augmentation Package (MRP). The MRP is designed to provide temporary staff augmentation to local healthcare facilities and can support the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), EMTF, or CERFP Medical Element as needed. The scope of their work includes sick call, preventative medicine, essential acute intervention, and primary care, ensuring that the Texas State Guard is ready to support the state’s medical infrastructure in times of need.

A key mission of the Texas State Guard is medical responsiveness, and every soldier is trained in emergency response procedures, including first aid and CPR. The Texas State Guard’s has a large medical task force plays a crucial role in multiple operations including, Operation Border Health Preparedness, an annual large-scale exercise that offers no-cost healthcare services to underserved communities across Texas. This initiative provides no cost essential health checkups, dental care, eye examinations and care, as well as mental health support to those who cannot afford such services. Through these efforts, the Texas State Guard demonstrates its commitment to enhancing public health and supporting vulnerable populations in the state.
