The Maryland National Guard recently reported the passing of Captain (MD) Jeffrey W. Rogers of the Maryland Defense Force. Captain Rogers, who had served with the Maryland Defense Force since 2023, was a dedicated cyber operations officer assigned to the 256th Cyber Defense Unit. At the time of his sudden passing this week, he was actively serving on state active duty with the Maryland Cybersecurity Task Force.
Captain Rogers brought a wealth of experience to the Maryland Defense Force, having previously served four years in the U.S. Army, including a deployment to Afghanistan. His military career was marked by numerous commendations, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Beyond his military service, he was also an accomplished actor and held a private pilot license, reflecting his diverse interests and talents.
“Jeffrey was instrumental in improving our unit’s operational readiness and worked diligently to connect us with key stakeholders but always made time to mentor junior members,” said Maryland Defense Force Maj. (MD) Jeremy C. O’Mard, commander of the 256th Cyber Defense Unit. “He had a tremendous impact on our unit’s culture. We are deeply saddened and send our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and anyone who knew him.”
Captain Rogers’ contributions to the Maryland Defense Force extended beyond his technical expertise. His commitment to mentoring and supporting fellow service members was a testament to his character and leadership. The loss of Captain Rogers is felt deeply throughout the Maryland Defense Force & National Guard. His dedication, kindness, and service will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
