The South Carolina State Guard (SCSG) has officially concluded its operation in response to the widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. Over the past several weeks, the SCSG deployed 146 soldiers on State Active Duty to support the recovery efforts alongside the Army and Air National Guard. These soldiers were tasked with a range of critical missions, including clearing debris, managing Points of Distribution (POD) operations, augmenting law enforcement, and utilizing drones for damage assessments. Additionally, the SCSG provided vital training for National Guard troops on safe chainsaw operations to ensure their readiness before entering storm-damaged zones. The SCSG’s Provost Marshal unit played a significant role in public safety by supporting local law enforcement, securing critical infrastructure, managing traffic control, and ensuring the smooth operation of relief efforts, contributing to the overall effectiveness of recovery missions across the state.
As these soldiers now return home to recover from weeks of tireless service, some remain active in strengthening the ranks of the South Carolina State Guard. For example, SGT Mills of A Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Civil Support Brigade (ACo/3BN/1CSB), recently recruited 14 new members during a local event, demonstrating the SCSG’s ongoing commitment to building its force even in the aftermath of a disaster.
SGT Mills, recruiter for ACo/3BN/1CSB, rocking it at the Myrtle Beach Gun Show. On day one, he already signed up 14 people! Excellent work soldier. #SouthCarolinaStateGuard #SCSG #SCStateGuard #MyrtleBeach
To commemorate their work during Hurricane Helene, the South Carolina State Guard produced a montage video showcasing their response efforts. You can watch the video here:
