(Originally uploaded 1/31, taken down 2/4 per SGAUS request, Re-Posted 2/5 – No Changes made to original audio file.)

The podcast episode is a three-hour-long interview where we dive into a multitude of topics. In the first part of the episode, which we are releasing today, we cover the military history of the newly appointed Colonel and SGAUS’s perspective on the updated National Guard Bureau Directive recommending that State Defense Force troops wear red nametapes, a red cap, and a red patch to distinguish their identity. We discuss SGAUS’s viewpoint on the directive and its potential impact on State Defense Forces. Additionally, we examine SGAUS’s stance on the removal of the Combat Patch, Combat Infantry Badge, and other federal achievements from State Defense Force uniforms. We explore whether adopting this new uniform policy will affect morale and recruitment within State Defense Forces, as well as its potential impact on public perception of SDF troops during emergencies. Lastly, we discuss the meeting SGAUS had with legislators and multiple Adjutant Generals (the senior National Guard General of each state) following the publication of the directive.

Next Friday, we will release the second part of this interview, where we explore potential federal legislation impacting State Defense Forces and their evolving role in national security. We also examine the feasibility and strategic benefits of State Defense Forces augmenting the National Guard in overseas deployments. Additionally, we delve into the growing cyber threats facing states and how both SGAUS and State Defense Forces are proactively developing strategies to strengthen cyber defense and safeguard critical infrastructure. This episode further explores the critical missions SGAUS believes State Defense Forces should prioritize, particularly in disaster response and emergency management. The following Friday, the final episode will focus on new SGAUS programs and training initiatives designed to revolutionize how State Defense Forces develop and certify their personnel, ensuring they remain a highly skilled and mission-ready force.
