New updates have been posted to several California legislative bills involving the California State Guard. Assembly Bill 468, which designates members of the California State Guard as emergency personnel and imposes felony penalties for impersonation during emergencies, is scheduled for a hearing on April 8th. Senate Bill 60, aimed at expanding educational opportunities for members of the State Guard and National Guard, will be heard on April 28th. Additionally, Assembly Bill 1035 has been introduced to provide a community college fee waiver for active members of the State Guard, further reinforcing the state’s commitment to supporting its volunteer military personnel.
And in Kentucky two bills have been introduced to begin the activation of The Kentucky State Defense Force. House Bill 41 and its companion Senate Bill 160 seek to reactivate the Kentucky State Defense Force. The proposed legislation would reestablish the force under the Adjutant General and introduce a new unit—the Kentucky Emergency Volunteer Corps (KEV Corps)—to serve as a community-based, unarmed support organization during emergencies. These bills mark a major step toward reviving the state’s inactive volunteer military organization.
