April proved to be another productive month for SDFHistory.org, a department of StateDefenseForce.com, as new historical materials, organizational white papers, and rare archival imagery were added to continue preserving the legacy and development of America’s State Defense Forces and State Guards. The latest additions further expand the growing archive of organizational histories, unit lineages, and rare photographs that document the men and women who served their states during times of war and emergency.
The new additions brought an exciting expansion to SDFHistory.org with the addition of rare World War II-era archival material highlighting both the glamour and military professionalism of America’s State Guards. Among the standout additions is a remarkable collection of Universal Studios publicity photographs documenting the induction of Captain Marian Davies into the 1st Battalion, 1st Medical Regiment of The California State Guard, one of the famed “Hollywood Units” of the war years. The photographs also feature Captain Frank C. Nolan and 1LT John Castillo, capturing a unique moment where Hollywood patriotism and State Guard service intersected during a critical chapter in American history. Alongside these rare images, SDFHistory.org released several new white papers on The Massachusetts State Guard, including an in-depth study of the State Staff and detailed organizational histories of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Military Police Battalions of the 2nd Division. These papers preserve unit lineage records, recognition and disbandment dates, distinctive insignia, and historic armory imagery, offering an incredible look into the wartime structure, expansion, and operational readiness of one of the nation’s most active State Guards during World War II.

These new additions continue the mission of SDFHistory.org to preserve, document, and organize the often overlooked history of America’s State Defense Forces. Through archival research, historical photography, organizational records, and unit lineage documentation, the project continues to ensure that the service and contributions of these forces are not forgotten by future generations.
