September 11 Rememberance

StateDefenseForce.com Remembers the Sacrifice of September 11

On this day, we at StateDefenseForce.com pause to remember the events of September 11, 2001—an infamous day that forever changed the course of American history. That morning, Al Qaeda terrorists turned passenger planes into weapons of war, slamming them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, with another aircraft brought down in Shanksville, Pennsylvania by the heroic actions of passengers who fought back. Nearly 3,000 men and women lost their lives in these horrific attacks, marking one of the darkest days in our nation’s history.

We will never forget the incredible courage and sacrifice shown by America’s first responders that day. Firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, and everyday citizens rushed toward danger, determined to save lives even as the towers burned and collapsed around them. Many never returned home, giving their lives so that others might live. Their selfless devotion stands as a lasting symbol of bravery, service, and love for their fellow Americans.

Among those who responded were a few members of the New York Guard, who were present when the towers were struck and quickly moved to assist in rescue and relief operations. Some New York Guard members were on-site at ground zero, aiding victims and working alongside first responders in the chaos of lower Manhattan. Tragically, one of their own was lost that day, 1LT John William Perry of The 88th Brigade, who will forever be remembered as part of the brotherhood of heroes who stood tall in the face of unimaginable horror.

In the aftermath of the attacks, the New York Guard, along with many other State Defense Forces, the National Guard, and the U.S. Military, were rapidly activated. They secured critical infrastructure, supported recovery operations, and stood watch over a shaken but unbroken nation. Operation Trade Center mobilized more than 400 New York Guard members who provided force protection and logistics support across the state, while others augmented Army National Guard units at ground zero. Their service during this time remains a powerful testament to the indispensable role of State Defense Forces in moments of national crisis.

As America went to war overseas to confront terrorism, State Defense Forces at home took on an equally vital mission: homeland defense. They ensured that while our military fought abroad, our communities remained protected, supported, and resilient. This dual effort embodied the unity of purpose that defined America’s response to 9/11.

Today, 24 years later, we remember. We remember the lives lost, the heroes who gave everything, and the men and women of the New York Guard and other State Defense Forces who answered the call without hesitation. StateDefenseForce.com honors their legacy and reaffirms our commitment to never forget that day, to always stand ready, and to ensure that the sacrifices made on September 11, 2001, are never in vain.

We will never forget.
