As Shutdown Nears Its End, South Carolina State Guard Keeps Delivering Hope

On November 5th, we reported that the Governor of South Carolina, Governor Henry McMaster, had activated the South Carolina State Guard to participate in Operation One South Carolina — a coordinated statewide effort to support families affected by the ongoing federal government shutdown. As today or tomorrow may mark the final days of the shutdown, the men and women of the South Carolina State Guard continue to carry out their mission with unwavering dedication, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with their communities during this difficult time.

Throughout the shutdown, soldiers of the South Carolina State Guard have been deployed across the state to food banks and other critical distribution points, helping load vehicles with boxes of food, household goods, and essential supplies for families struggling without paychecks. This includes members of the U.S. Military who are serving on active duty, as well as vital civilian workers such as air traffic controllers, TSA officers, federal corrections officers, Coast Guard personnel, and employees of national parks and federal agencies — all of whom have felt the toll of the shutdown.

Now entering its second week, Operation One South Carolina continues to make a tangible impact. Guard teams have been stationed at Harvest Hope Food Banks in Columbia, Greenville, and Florence, ensuring that food reaches those who need it most. Soldiers of Alpha and Delta Company, 3rd Battalion, recently reported to the Harvest Hope Distribution Center in Florence, where they packed food boxes to feed nearly 1,200 families throughout the region. Meanwhile, other troops extended their mission to Belton, South Carolina, where they distributed food to families in need at the Anderson Jockey Lot — demonstrating once again the Guard’s steadfast commitment to serving their fellow citizens.

As the state awaits the full reopening of the federal government, Operation One South Carolina remains a testament to the selfless service of the South Carolina State Guard. Their actions reflect the core values of every State Defense Force across the nation: readiness, compassion, and community. At StateDefenseForce.com, we commend the men and women of the South Carolina State Guard, along with all the other State Defense Forces who have stepped forward during this challenging period, providing essential aid to their communities when they needed it most.

Week 2 of operations on the One SC Food Bank mission for the South Carolina State Guard continues. Teams are currently deployed in Columbia, Greenville and Florence at Harvest Hope Food Banks. Monitary or food donations are greatly appreciated.
