Christmas Season Strengthens Camaraderie Across the Texas State Guard

As the calendar moves closer to the holiday season, soldiers from across Texas State Guard (State Defense Force – TXSG) have taken time to come together, reflect on the year behind them, and celebrate the bonds that make their units strong. While December is often associated with time off and family gatherings, for the Texas State Guard it also represents an opportunity to reinforce unit cohesion, recognize service, and acknowledge the families who stand behind those who serve. In an earlier article, we discussed how gatherings like these play a critical role in strengthening morale, reinforcing trust, and ensuring that soldiers remain connected to one another beyond the demands of training and missions.

Members of the 1st Brigade recently gathered with their families to celebrate the season, emphasizing togetherness, service, and shared commitment. Events like these provide a rare chance for families to meet fellow soldiers, leadership, and support networks that exist within the unit. For many Guardsmen, these moments are just as important as field exercises or classroom instruction, as they reinforce the sense of belonging and mutual reliance that carries units through demanding missions and long training cycles.

That same spirit was evident with soldiers from The 2nd Brigade, where Guardsmen and their families gathered at the Texas National Guard Armory in Houston for a holiday potluck. After a year filled with missions, training opportunities, and the welcoming of new leadership earlier in the summer, the event offered a chance to pause and enjoy fellowship. Sharing a meal prepared at home and spending time with loved ones and fellow their fellow brothers & sisters in The Texas State Guard highlights the vital role families play in sustaining readiness and morale throughout the year.

Alongside the celebration, the units took time to formally recognize service and achievement. Major Kenneth Bergeron promoted Ryon Bell to the rank of Private First Class, while Command Sergeant Major John Marshall, former Command Sergeant Major of 2nd Brigade, was presented a special certificate commemorating decades of dedicated service to Texas. The recognition, supported by 1st Sergeant Pedro Sosa, underscored the importance of honoring leadership, experience, and the legacy passed down to the next generation of Guardsmen.

As the Christmas and New Year season approaches, StateDefenseForce.com would like to recognize all Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Space Force members, and State Defense Force troops who remain on active duty during this time of year. It is because of their commitment and willingness to serve, often away from home, that families across the nation are able to gather in warmth, comfort, and peace, sharing food, laughter, and moments together during the holidays.
