No. We do not endorse joining The Florida State Guard under any circumstances for the following reasons:
- It is classified as a civilian organization while referring to itself as a State Defense Force which are military entities. State Defense Forces have been referred to military entities since World War One.
- They are not under the supervision of The Florida Department of Military Affairs. Every State Defense Force is overseen by their States Military Department.
- They are not under the supervision or command of The Adjutant General (Senior National Guard General). Every State Defense Force is overseen by their States Adjutant General.
- They are not subject to The Florida State Military Law & Regulations that govern The Florida Army National Guard & Air National Guard, known as Title XVII Military Affairs and Related Matters Chapter 250 Military Affairs. These set rules, regulation and laws for every service member within the Florida Military. Every State Defense Force is subject to their States Military Law & Regulations.
- Volunteers who join The Florida State Guard are given military uniforms despite being classified as civilians.
- Volunteeers who join The Florida State Guard will be given firearms training without a curriculum or supervision from The Florida Department of Military Affairs. This presents a significant legal liability.
If you wish to join the military we encourage joining The Florida Army National Guard or Air National Guard. If you are unable to join these branches due to a medical disability, family commitments, the inability to deploy overseas due to civilian job commitments, etc. we encourage you to join The Coast Guard Auxilary, it is a Civilian Organization but work hand in hand with The US Coast Guard and receive Federal training & funding. However if you are located near Georgia, The Georgia State Defense Force does accept applicants from neighboring states.
