Over the holiday period, we made a series of significant improvements to StateDefenseForce.com that have dramatically increased the speed at which the website loads on your phone, tablet, or computer. Our website designer spent much of the past month upgrading and optimizing backend components, and on December 31st implemented the single largest change to date, resulting in a noticeable and immediate improvement in overall performance. Pages now load faster, navigation is smoother, and the experience is more responsive across all devices.
This achievement is especially meaningful given where the website started. At one point, the backend footprint of StateDefenseForce.com had grown into the hundreds of gigabytes—an amount comparable to storing hundreds of Blu-ray movies. Through careful optimization and modern compression techniques, the site has been modernized in its infrastructure.
We want to sincerely thank our Patreon community for supporting the State Guard & Defense Force Council, also known as StateDefenseForce.com, and the broader organization that continues to grow around it. That support helps sustain our entire ecosystem, including State Defense Force Online Store, State Guard Administration, which is actively developing recommended policy guidelines, advising legislators on establishing new State Defense Forces where none exist, and supporting legislation that strengthens existing forces, and Center for State Defense Force History. The History Center is well on its way to cataloging State Defense Force history from 1917 through 2017 so that this rich legacy is preserved rather than lost to time.
We would also like to extend special thanks to Major (TX) Adam Gonzales, Director of the Center for State Defense Force History, for his incredible leadership and dedication. His work, alongside contributors across many states, including partnerships with organizations such as the California Military Department Historical Collection has been instrumental in advancing this effort. We are equally grateful to the other members of our staff for their continued work developing and moderating our social media communities across Facebook, Discord, Reddit, X, YouTube, and TikTok, as well as to our hosts and audio team behind Commanders Briefing and Scuttlebutt. We also welcome the two new staff members joining us this month, whose addition will further strengthen our ability to support State Defense Forces nationwide.
Looking ahead to 2026, our primary goal is to develop and stand up a dedicated Quartermaster Corps. This initiative will focus on supporting State Defense Forces, particularly those with limited budgets by helping provide uniforms, essential gear, and resources to feed troops during weekend drills and annual training. The Quartermaster Corps will be designed to offer direct assistance through donated uniforms, equipment, and funds to ensure no unit is left struggling to meet basic needs. In the coming month, we will be launching a fundraising drive to help make this mission a reality. As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, donations made to support this effort will be tax-deductible, and every contribution will go directly toward strengthening and supporting State Defense Forces across the country.
If you wish to get a head start, you can donate now via the link below or by clicking the Donate button on this webpage.
