This Sunday, January 4th at 2 PM EST, StateDefenseForce.com will be hosting a new live episode of our community podcast, Scuttlebutt. For this episode we’re diving into a topic chosen directly by our community through our Patreon poll system ensuring that our discussions reflect the issues you want discussed.
The community-selected topic for this week examines how and why several State Defense Forces were deactivated, with a focused discussion on the cases of the Alabama State Defense Force, Oregon Defense Force, and Massachusetts State Defense Force. We’ll explore the historical, political, and other factors behind their deactivations, what lessons can be learned from these decisions, and how they relate to the ongoing challenges and future viability of State Defense Forces nationwide.
Joining us for this episode is Anthony Woods, former Commanding General of the Texas State Guard and a combat veteran of the United States Army. Major General Woods brings invaluable leadership experience and firsthand insight into the operational, political, and strategic realities facing State Defense Forces, making him a perfect guest for this critical discussion.
This conversation goes beyond history. Understanding why State Defense Forces are deactivated is essential to protecting those that remain active today and ensuring they are properly utilized, funded, and supported moving forward. These decisions have real consequences for homeland defense, disaster response, and the ability of states to sustain operations when National Guard forces are deployed or stretched thin.
The episode will stream live on YouTube, where viewers can engage in real time—sharing comments, asking questions, and contributing directly to the discussion as it unfolds.
