State Defense Forces Honor Memorial Day

State Defense Forces across the country took part in Memorial Day Ceremonies, to honor those who ‘gave the last full measure of devotion’ to this nation. Listed below are a few news items from those ceremonies.

CALIFORNIA

Command Sgt. Major Daniel DeGeorge, the California State Guard’s senior enlisted advisor narrates the Missing Man table with the help of a Military Funeral Honors Sgt.

GEORGIA

The Georgia National Guard held a Memorial Day ceremony, Clay National Guard Center, Marietta, Ga., May 26, 2022. Georgia Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Thomas M. Carden Jr. joined others in attending. Georgia State Defense Force (GSDF) Commanding General Brig. Gen. Mark D. Gelhardt Sr. represented the GSDF.

OHIO

Goodyear Tire & Rubber is the civilian home of several OHMR Soldiers & Ohio Naval Militia Sailors. In honor of Memorial Day, the company asked service members, including OHMR’s own Chief of Chaplains, MAJ Steven Stephanoff, to raise the colors and render honors in front of its Akron headquarters building. He represented OHMR well.

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — Veterans of the 42nd Infantry Division presented a memorial wreath at the division’s World War I memorial in Garden City at noon on Saturday, May 28, 2022.
The division was formed in 1917 at Camp Mills which was located where Garden City is today.
The division was made up of National Guard units from 26 states and the District of Columbia and Col. Douglas McArthur, the division’s first chief of staff, said it would stretch across the country “Like a Rainbow”.
